Pointe Claire resides in a sleepy part of Montreal Island, which is known as West Island. This part of the island known as West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar to its significance. They often believe it is an island that lies west of Montreal, but it is actually a part of the city. West Island encompasses everything between the two cities of Lachine as well as West. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time in the city wasn't long. Brugel became a young woman living in Courtice Ontario just outside Oshawa. Her early ambition was to be a dancer but an increase in her height led to her growing beyond the dancers she was with. This led to the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and graduated with an Associate of Fine Arts degree in 2000. Over the last 20 years, her work has been featured on both the small and large screen. The most notable was her attention when she won her part as Rita in the acclaimed television series The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the character Rita in The Handmaid's Tale the series filming over 10 years ago.
